Know your Power are the words that started it all for Soul Pop singer/songwriter Shelby Ruger. 

 

Based out of Houston,TX  Shelby Ruger brings together influences from the Houston rap scene, her Dominican roots and her love for r&b music to create a musical space that connects all ages, genders, genres and ethnicities.  Shelby creates music for those who need help deciphering through any emotion and connects with those who need to hear something inspiring to make them see the power that lies within them. All of this while effortlessly commanding respect with  her crafty lyricism, and buttery flows that leaves the listener wondering what's coming next. 

 

Shelbys career began in April of 2019 with her debut release Deserve It. She since has went on to release one more solo song in IHateFacetime. Shelby then has since partnered with power-producing duo The OTH3RS, in order to complete her debut EP Globetrotter release On May 28th of 2022, which garnered over 10,000 streams independently. Shelby is geared up to release her newest single 'Goodbye' a pop/ funk record that makes anyone listening to it want to get up dance. It is set to release on November 18th 2022.

Shelby has received recognition for her music as she was featured on Superflymixxs fly behavior in 2021. Which garnered the attention of the Houston Chronicle and was regarded as one of the rap best albums coming out of Houston in 2021. Her music has also been written about in Voyage Houston and reviewed by Hip Hop Live Review. 

 

As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community Shelby lives by the words “Know Your Power”and it is a constant motif in her music, portrayed by the acronym KYP stated in all her songs. Shelby believes that it is important to demand representation in an industry & musical landscape that frowns upon anything or anyone that strays from the social norm. Shelby will use her music to push the narrative that being different is ok.
